The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) is the first film in a three-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved novel The Hobbit, directed by Peter Jackson. Set in the same universe as The Lord of the Rings, this epic fantasy adventure follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins (played by Martin Freeman), a humble hobbit from the Shire, who is unexpectedly swept into a grand adventure.
Bilbo is recruited by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) to join a company of thirteen dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), on a quest to reclaim the lost Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.
Reluctant at first, Bilbo gradually discovers courage within himself as he faces trolls, goblins, and other dangers in the treacherous lands of Middle-earth.
Along the way, Bilbo also encounters the creature Gollum (Andy Serkis) and comes into possession of a mysterious ring that holds great power, setting the stage for events that will shape the future of Middle-earth.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is filled with breathtaking visuals, thrilling action sequences, and rich world-building, all hallmarks of Jacksonβs filmmaking. The film explores themes of friendship, bravery, and the unexpected heroism found in ordinary individuals, making it an exciting prelude to The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
