GODS OF EGYPT 2 (2024)

“Gods of Egypt” is a 2016 fantasy action film directed by Alex Proyas, featuring a fantastical take on ancient Egyptian deities. The film stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Chadwick Boseman, Élodie Yung, Courtney Eaton, Rufus Sewell, Gerard Butler, and Geoffrey Rush.
The story follows the Egyptian god Horus, who teams up with a mortal thief on a quest to rescue his love and save the world from the evil god Set.
Filming took place in Australia, with production handled by Summit Entertainment in collaboration with Thunder Road Pictures and Proyas’ own Mystery Clock Cinema. Despite the film’s $140 million production budget, the financial exposure for the parent company Lionsgate was less than $10 million, thanks to tax incentives and pre-sales.

The Australian government contributed a tax credit covering 46% of the film’s budget. When Lionsgate began promoting the film in November 2015, it faced criticism for its predominantly white cast portraying Egyptian deities. In response, both Lionsgate and director Proyas issued apologies for the ethnically inaccurate casting.
