Daybreakers (2010)
Daybreakers (2010) is a science fiction horror film set in a dystopian future where a plague has turned most of the human population into vampires. As the vampire population grows, the remaining humans become a rare commodity, hunted for their blood.
The film follows Edward Dalton (played by Ethan Hawke), a vampire hematologist who works for a powerful vampire corporation.
Despite being a vampire himself, Edward is disgusted by the way his kind has turned humanity into prey. The world is rapidly running out of human blood, and vampires are struggling to survive. The human race is on the brink of extinction, and many vampires are becoming “ferals,” mindless, bloodthirsty creatures.
Edward becomes involved with a group of human survivors led by Audrey (played by Claudia Karvan) and a scientist named Lionel (played by Willem Dafoe), who is working on a cure for vampirism. Together, they attempt to find a solution to the blood shortage and reverse the vampiric condition, giving humanity a chance to survive.
As Edward grapples with his own vampire nature and his desire to help humanity, he must confront powerful vampire leaders, including Charles Bromley (played by Sam Neill), who is determined to maintain the vampire status quo. The movie explores themes of survival, ethics, and the consequences of unchecked power, all set in a dark and action-packed world where humans are nearly extinct, and vampires are on the brink of collapse.
