Elemental (2023)
“Elemental” (2023) is an animated film produced by Pixar, set in a vibrant world where the four classical elements—fire, water, land, and air—are embodied by distinct communities. The story primarily follows Ember Lumen (voiced by Leah Lewis), a fiery young woman, and Wade Ripple (voiced by Mamoudou Athie), a water-based character.
Ember and her family, who are immigrants from the Fire District, run a small shop in the city of Element City, a diverse metropolis where beings of all elements coexist. Ember has always been told by her father to be careful with her fiery temper and to keep things in the family’s store in order, but she longs to explore a broader future.
When a pipe bursts in the store, Wade, a water-element inspector, is called to assess the damage. Ember and Wade, initially at odds due to their elemental differences, are forced to work together to fix the shop. As they do, they form an unlikely bond and slowly uncover that their differences may not be as insurmountable as they thought.
The film explores themes of family, acceptance, and the power of diversity, highlighting the challenges of finding one’s place in a world where different cultures and elements often clash. Elemental combines heartfelt storytelling with Pixar’s signature animation and humor, delivering a story about understanding, love, and embracing differences.
