Geostorm (2017)
Geostorm (2017) is a disaster-action film directed by Dean Devlin, starring Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess, and Abbie Cornish. The movie is set in a near future where advanced technology has been developed to control global weather patterns. A network of satellites called “Dutch Boy” is deployed to prevent natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and droughts by manipulating weather conditions from space.
The story follows Jake Lawson (Butler), a former NASA scientist who helped create Dutch Boy but was later dismissed due to his unconventional methods. When a series of catastrophic weather events, including a deadly heatwave, start wreaking havoc across the globe, Jake is called back into action by his brother Max (Sturgess), who works for the U.S. government.
They discover that the satellites have been sabotaged, causing the weather system to go haywire and create a “geostorm” that could destroy the planet.
As the brothers race against time to prevent the impending global disaster, they uncover a conspiracy that threatens not only the Earth but the stability of world governments. The film is filled with intense action sequences, showcasing large-scale natural disasters, and explores themes of technology, climate control, and global cooperation.
