Doctor Sleep (2019)
Doctor Sleep (2019) is a supernatural horror film and the sequel to The Shining (1980), based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name. The story follows Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor), the young boy from The Shining, now an adult struggling with the trauma of his past and the powerful psychic ability known as “the shining.”
Danny has spent years battling alcoholism and trying to suppress his psychic abilities, but he is haunted by visions of his traumatic experiences at the Overlook Hotel. He eventually finds a way to control his powers and becomes involved with a young girl named Abra Stone (Kyliegh Curran), who also possesses the shining, albeit to a much stronger degree.
However, they face a dark and terrifying enemy known as the “True Knot,” a group of immortals led by Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson), who feed on the psychic energy, or “steam,” of children with the shining to prolong their lives. Danny and Abra form an unlikely partnership to confront the True Knot and protect the innocent children from their deadly grasp.
The film blends elements of horror, suspense, and emotional drama as Danny grapples with his past and the legacy of his father’s trauma, all while trying to protect Abra and defeat the malevolent forces threatening them both. Doctor Sleep explores themes of healing, confronting inner demons, and the battle between good and evil.
