Given how the characters said goodbye to each other at the end of the last film, it’s safe to assume that the sequel will focus more on other characters, or perhaps even introduce more toys. But Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter has made it clear that Toy Story 5 will remain at its core a Woody and Buzz film, just like the previous four.

Docter also teased that the new sequel will “surprise” fans with some never-before-seen plot twists. “It’s a sequel and it’s going to be based on things like comics or video games. I think what’s important for us now is to develop new original stories that people are excited to see.”

Notably, the voice behind Buzz Lightyear, actor Tim Allen, has also confirmed his return in the fifth installment. Allen’s post also hinted at Tom Hanks reprising his role as Woody, further raising fans’ expectations.

In addition to the two main characters, Woody and Buzz, the film also sees the return of Bonnie’s toys, including Jessie, Bullseye, Rex, Hamm, Slinky Dog, Mr. Pricklepants, Trixie, Buttercup, Dolly and Forky. Or the group of ownerless toys that accompany Woody and Bo Peep: Giggle McDimples, Ducky, Bunny and Duke Kaboom.

Judging by the release cycle of previous installments, we may have to wait until 2026 at the earliest to see Toy Story 5 on the big screen. Even so, fans are still willing to wait to see the journey of friendship between Woody and Buzz Lightyear again.
