Stranger Things is an American sci-fi horror web television series created by the Duffer Brothers for Netflix. The Duffer Brothers also serve as executive producers alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. The show’s first season starred Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, and Matthew Modine, with Noah Schnapp and Joe Keery in recurring roles.

For the second season, Schnapp and Keery were promoted to series regulars, along with newcomers Sadie Sink, Dacre Montgomery, Sean Astin, and Paul Reiser, with Priah Ferguson in a recurring role. Maya Hawke joined the cast for the third season, while Ferguson became a series regular.
Set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the first season takes place in November 1983, following the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy amidst strange supernatural occurrences. This includes the appearance of a girl with psychokinetic abilities who helps the boy’s friends search for him.
The second season, Stranger Things 2, takes place one year later in October 1984, as the characters attempt to return to normalcy after the previous season’s events. The third season, Stranger Things 3, takes place in July 1985.

The Duffer Brothers created Stranger Things as a blend of investigative drama and supernatural elements, infused with childlike sensibilities. Set in the 1980s, the series serves as an homage to the era’s pop culture, drawing inspiration from the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Stephen King, and others, including films, anime, and video games.
The first season, consisting of eight episodes, premiered on Netflix on July 15, 2016, receiving critical acclaim for its writing, pacing, acting, atmosphere, soundtrack, and nostalgic references to 1980s genre films. The second season, with nine episodes, was released on October 27, 2017, and the third season, with eight episodes, premiered on July 4, 2019.
The Duffer Brothers have indicated that Stranger Things will likely conclude after its fourth or fifth season. The series has earned 31 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, and four Golden Globe nominations. In 2016, it won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
