Errementari (2017)
Errementari: The Blacksmith and the Devil (2017) is a Basque-language dark fantasy horror film directed by Paul Urkijo Alijo. The story is inspired by Basque folklore and based on a traditional tale.
Set in the 19th century, the film follows Patxi, a reclusive and bitter blacksmith who lives in an isolated forge, rumored to be cursed. Unknown to the villagers, Patxi has trapped a demon named Sartael, whom he tortures and keeps imprisoned as part of a personal vendetta. The blacksmith is haunted by his own dark past and is consumed by hatred and guilt.
The plot thickens when a young orphan girl, Usue, accidentally stumbles into Patxi’s forge and discovers his secret. As the forces of heaven and hell close in, Patxi must confront his own humanity and make a choice between revenge and redemption.
