The Hobbit (2012-2014)

The Hobbit trilogy (2012โ€“2014), directed by Peter Jackson, tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who is drawn into an epic quest by the wizard Gandalf and a company of thirteen dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield. Their mission is to reclaim the lost Dwarven kingdom of Erebor and its treasures, which have been overtaken by the powerful dragon Smaug.
Throughout the journey, Bilbo faces many dangers, encountering trolls, goblins, giant spiders, and elves. Along the way, he discovers a mysterious ring that grants him invisibility, unaware that it is the One Ring, linked to the dark lord Sauron.
As they approach Erebor, the group must outwit Smaug, but their victory draws the attention of various armies who gather for the riches of the Lonely Mountain, leading to the climactic Battle of the Five Armies.
The trilogy, spanning An Unexpected Journey (2012), The Desolation of Smaug (2013), and The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), explores themes of bravery, loyalty, and the perils of greed, setting the stage for the events of The Lord of the Rings.
