The story centers around Tom Mason (played by Noah Wyle), a former history professor turned resistance leader, who works with a group of survivors, including his three sons, to wage guerrilla warfare against the alien occupiers. As the human resistance fights back, they uncover the aliens’ plans to enslave humanity and use them for their own sinister purposes.

The series explores themes of survival, leadership, and the human spirit as Tom and his team battle not only the alien invaders but also internal struggles within the resistance. Throughout the show, they form alliances with other survivor groups, and over time, uncover more about the alien forces’ weaknesses and how to defeat them.

As the series progresses, Tom must come to terms with the sacrifices necessary for survival, as well as the ethical dilemmas that arise in the fight against the aliens. The show mixes action, drama, and suspense, focusing on both the human relationships and the ongoing war for Earth’s future.
