Game of Thrones – Season 2, Episode 5: “The Ghost of Harrenhal”

The episode begins with Renly Baratheon’s sudden assassination by a shadowy figure conjured by Melisandre. His loyal knight Brienne of Tarth is falsely accused and forced to flee with Catelyn Stark. Meanwhile, Stannis Baratheon takes control of Renly’s forces, strengthening his army for the upcoming battle against King’s Landing.

At King’s Landing, Tyrion Lannister learns that Cersei is preparing to use wildfire, a highly explosive substance, to defend the city from Stannis’ impending attack. Tyrion secretly takes control of the wildfire production to ensure it is used strategically.

In the North, Theon Greyjoy plans his first raid as a newly appointed captain but struggles to gain respect from his crew. Elsewhere, Bran Stark, now ruling Winterfell in his brother Robb’s absence, hears unsettling reports of attacks on nearby settlements but remains unsure how to act.

At Harrenhal, Arya Stark, now serving as Tywin Lannister’s cupbearer, meets Jaqen H’ghar, who offers to kill three people for her in exchange for saving his life. Arya names her first target: the Tickler, a ruthless torturer. Later, she finds him mysteriously dead.
Beyond the Wall, Jon Snow joins a scouting mission led by Qhorin Halfhand to track the Wildlings and uncover their plans. The episode ends with a growing sense of tension as multiple forces prepare for the coming conflicts.
