In the modern era, MMA fighter Cole Young discovers a dragon birthmark ties him to a prophecy: Earthrealm must win the 10th Mortal Kombat tournament or face annihilation by Outworld. Predator SubāZero targets Cole and his family, prompting Special Forces Major Jax to take action. Their path leads to Sonya Blade and a secret resistance guided by Raiden, the thunder god.
The recruitsāCole, Sonya, Jax, Liu Kang, and Kung Laoātrain in arcana powers under Raidenās watchful eye. Judging the threat, Outworldās sorcerer Shang Tsung sends his champions (Kano, Kabal, Mileena, Nitara) to sabotage Earthrealmās training and strike preemptively.
In a seismic clash at Raidenās temple, Cole unlocks his arcana, Jax gains powered arms, and Sonya acquires her signature energy blasts. Their triumph over Goro and others sets up the final showdown with Sub-Zero, which ends with Cole freeing Scorpion, Hanzoās vengeful spirit, to defeat his nemesis and rescue Coleās family.
