The Catastrophe of Mount Gede

Maya (Arla Ailani) and Ita (Adzana Ashel), two friends who are climbing Mount Gede, suddenly experience an unexpected incident. When everyone blames Ita for breaking a myth, Maya doesn’t believe it. Is it just because of that that her friend has to suffer such terrible consequences? Or is there something else that Ita has done that she has to endure such cruel torture and terror? Maya is determined to find answers to save the life of her beloved friend.

The film is inspired by a fictional disaster at Mount Gede volcano (Indonesia), when a group of geologists, journalists and locals are trapped in the mountain after a sudden eruption. While the government is slow to issue warnings, a series of earthquakes, ash rains, and pyroclastic flows are engulfing the entire area.

Amidst the death and chaos, Professor Rendra (Joe Taslim) – a volcano expert, leads a small group to try to survive and decipher an ancient mystery about this mountain. Meanwhile, international reporter Kate (Jessica Chastain) must choose between recording the truth or saving the lives of those around her.

The Catastrophe of Mount Gede is not only an epic disaster film, but also a warning about the fragility of human beings in the face of nature – when the truth is hidden, the consequences always come in the most brutal way.
