In 2021, while working his field near Rincón de Valle, Argentine farmer Juan de Dios Sota uncovered an extraordinary piece of prehistory—four enormous Glyptodon shells, preserved beneath the earth for over 10,000 years.

These extinct, Ice Age creatures resembled gigantic armadillos and were protected by massive, domed armor.

Belonging to the Pleistocene epoch, Glyptodons once roamed the South American landscape in large numbers. The unusual discovery of multiple shells in close proximity suggests that this site may have been a natural gathering spot or perhaps even a communal resting area for these ancient giants.
