Cherchen Man: A Bronze Age Mummy from the Taklamakan Desert

The Cherchen Man was discovered in 1978 at Zaghunluq, near the town of Qiemo (also known as Cherchen), in the Taklamakan Desert of China’s Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region.

Exceptionally well preserved, he is believed to have ๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ around 1000 BC. He was found alongside the ๐˜ฎ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜ง๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ remains of three women and an ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ง๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ต, offering a remarkable glimpse into the ancient cultures that once inhabited this arid region.
