Inner Coffin Lid and Grave Goods of Queen Ahhotep

The inner coffin lid of Queen Ahhotep, along with a selection of grave goods discovered in the Dra’ Abu el-Naga’ Necropolis, highlight her significant status.
Among the items are golden flies, a dagger, and a battle axe—symbols that strongly suggest her active role as a defender of Egypt.
Records indicate that Ahhotep (c. 1560–1530 BCE) was a woman of exceptional strength, courage, and authority, surpassing that of many men of her time. Her remarkable story begins in Egypt’s Second Intermediate Period and today is remembered through the artifacts preserved in both the Luxor Museum and the Cairo Museum.
