Cobra (1986) is an action-packed crime thriller directed by George P. Cosmatos, starring Sylvester Stallone as tough, no-nonsense cop Lieutenant Marion “Cobra” Cobretti. The film follows Cobra, a member of the LAPD’s elite “Zombie Squad,” who is called in to handle the most dangerous criminals when other officers are unable to get the job done.
The main plot revolves around Cobra’s mission to protect a key witness, Ingrid Knudsen (Brigitte Nielsen), who has seen the leader of a violent gang of serial killers known as the “New World.” This gang, led by the Night Slasher (Brian Thompson), is on a rampage in Los Angeles, murdering innocent civilians to create their version of a new world order through chaos and brutality.
As Cobra works to protect Ingrid and track down the killers, he faces resistance not only from the gang but also from within the police department, where his extreme methods of dealing with criminals are criticized. The movie is filled with high-octane action sequences, car chases, shootouts, and Stallone’s trademark tough-guy persona.
Cobra is known for its gritty, over-the-top action, 80s style, and Stallone’s portrayal of an uncompromising cop who delivers his own brand of justice. With memorable one-liners like “You’re the disease, and I’m the cure,” the film has become a cult favorite among action movie fans.
