2047: Virtual Revolution (2016)
2047: Virtual Revolution (2016) is a sci-fi cyberpunk thriller directed by Guy-Roger Duvert, set in a dystopian future where virtual reality has taken over the lives of most of humanity. The film explores themes of technology, control, and the blurred line between reality and illusion.
The story takes place in 2047 in a futuristic Paris, where over 75% of the population is addicted to virtual worlds, spending their lives plugged into alternate realities. These people, known as “connected”, escape the bleakness of the real world by immersing themselves in virtual environments. Meanwhile, a powerful corporation called Synternis controls and profits from these virtual worlds.
The protagonist, Nash (played by Mike Dopud), is a former soldier turned elite mercenary who works for Synternis. His job is to hunt down and eliminate “terrorists” who seek to free the connected people from the grip of virtual reality. As Nash is hired to investigate a series of attacks against the virtual world, he discovers a conspiracy that forces him to question his role, his allegiances, and what freedom truly means.
With a dark and atmospheric tone, 2047: Virtual Revolution offers a visually immersive cyberpunk experience, combining futuristic action sequences with philosophical questions about reality and humanity’s dependence on technology.
The film is a nod to classic cyberpunk works like Blade Runner and The Matrix, making it a compelling watch for fans of dystopian sci-fi.
