Bright (2017)

Bright (2017) is a fantasy-action film directed by David Ayer and set in an alternate version of modern-day Los Angeles, where humans coexist with various mythical creatures, including orcs, elves, and fairies. The film stars Will Smith as Daryl Ward, a human LAPD officer, and Joel Edgerton as Nick Jakoby, the first orc police officer, who are partnered in a world marked by racial tensions and magical forces.
The plot follows Ward and Jakoby as they stumble upon a powerful magical artifact known as a wand, which can grant immense power but is highly dangerous in the wrong hands. Only special beings, called “Brights,” can wield it without dying. The discovery of the wand puts them in the crosshairs of corrupt cops, street gangs, and an ancient, deadly elf named Leilah (Noomi Rapace), who seeks to use the wand to resurrect the Dark Lord and take over the world.
As the unlikely duo fights to protect the wand and survive the night, they must also confront their own personal differences, as Ward grapples with his distrust of orcs and Jakoby faces prejudice from both humans and his fellow orcs. The film blends themes of social commentary with high-octane action and magical elements, drawing parallels between the fantasy races and real-world societal issues.

Bright is known for its unique world-building and the gritty, urban-fantasy fusion it creates. Although it received mixed reviews for its execution and narrative, the film garnered attention for its star-studded cast, visual effects, and exploration of themes like racism, class struggle, and unity in a divided world.
