Loki (2021)
Loki (2021) is a Marvel Studios TV series streaming on Disney+, centered around the character Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. The show takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), where Loki escapes with the Tesseract during a time heist gone wrong. This creates an alternate timeline, leading to a new journey for the God of Mischief.
In the series, Loki is captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA), a bureaucratic organization tasked with maintaining the proper flow of time. The TVA deems Loki a “variant” who has disrupted the “sacred timeline.” Instead of being erased from existence, Loki is given a chance at redemption by helping TVA agents, including the pragmatic Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson), track down a mysterious variant who is wreaking havoc across timelines.
As Loki ventures deeper into the TVA and multiverse, he grapples with questions of identity, purpose, and his own nature as a trickster god. The show blends sci-fi, action, and philosophical themes while introducing viewers to new Marvel concepts like alternate realities and variants, laying the groundwork for future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) storylines.
Known for its clever writing, sharp humor, and character development, Loki is praised for expanding the MCU in bold and unpredictable ways, while also exploring the complexity of its titular anti-hero.
