Risen (2016)

Risen is a biblical drama film directed by Kevin Reynolds that presents a fictionalized account of the events surrounding the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Set in ancient Judea shortly after the crucifixion, the film follows a Roman tribune named Clavius (Joseph Fiennes), who is tasked by Pontius Pilate (Peter Firth) to investigate the disappearance of Jesus’ body.
As Clavius conducts his investigation, he encounters the disciples and witnesses their profound transformations following the resurrection. Throughout his journey, Clavius grapples with his own beliefs, questioning the nature of faith, life, and death. His pursuit of truth leads him to confront the implications of the resurrection, ultimately forcing him to reevaluate his understanding of reality.

The film combines elements of historical drama and faith-based storytelling, exploring themes of redemption, belief, and the search for meaning. With a strong performance by Joseph Fiennes and a compelling narrative, Risen aims to engage viewers with its unique perspective on one of the most significant events in Christian history.

Risen received mixed reviews from critics but was appreciated for its production values and thoughtful portrayal of faith and doubt. The film offers a fresh take on the biblical narrative, appealing to both religious and secular audiences.
