Passengers (2016)

“Passengers,” released in 2016, is a science fiction romance film directed by Morten Tyldum. The movie stars Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence as two passengers on a spaceship traveling to a distant colony planet.
The story is set on the starship Avalon, which is on a 120-year journey to the planet Homestead II. The ship is carrying over 5,000 colonists and crew members in hibernation pods. However, a malfunction causes mechanical engineer Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) to awaken 90 years too early. After spending a year alone on the ship and facing the prospect of living out the rest of his life in isolation, Jim makes the morally complex decision to wake up another passenger, writer Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence).
As Jim and Aurora come to terms with their predicament, they develop a romantic relationship, but the truth about Jim’s decision looms over them. Meanwhile, the ship begins to experience critical system failures, and Jim and Aurora must work together to prevent a catastrophic disaster that could jeopardize the lives of everyone on board.
The film also features Michael Sheen as Arthur, a robotic bartender, and Laurence Fishburne as Gus Mancuso, a deck chief who wakes up later in the film.
“Passengers” combines elements of romance, drama, and adventure, set against the backdrop of space travel. The film explores themes of loneliness, ethical dilemmas, and the human desire for companionship.
Despite its beautiful visual effects and the strong chemistry between Pratt and Lawrence, the film received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising its premise and performances, while others criticized its handling of the central moral issue and pacing.

Overall, “Passengers” offers an engaging narrative with visually stunning scenes of space and the futuristic design of the starship Avalon, providing a thought-provoking look at human connection and the choices we make in extraordinary circumstances.
