Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011) is a historical drama miniseries that serves as a prequel to the hit show Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Created by Steven S. DeKnight, this series takes viewers back to the origins of the House of Batiatus and the rise of the gladiator arena in ancient Rome.


Set before the events of Blood and Sand, the series focuses on Quintus Lentulus Batiatus (played by John Hannah), who is determined to elevate his family’s gladiator school to prominence.

Alongside his ambitious wife, Lucretia (played by Lucy Lawless), Batiatus manipulates, schemes, and fights to gain power in the corrupt world of gladiatorial combat. Their main weapon is Gannicus (played by Dustin Clare), a skilled and arrogant gladiator who is on the verge of earning his freedom due to his unrivaled talent in the arena.


Spartacus: Gods of the Arena explores the brutal world of ancient Rome’s gladiatorial contests, packed with intense fight sequences, political intrigue, and personal betrayals.
