The Little Mermaid (2023)

The Little Mermaid (2023) is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s classic animated film, based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Directed by Rob Marshall, the film tells the story of Ariel, a curious and adventurous young mermaid who dreams of exploring the human world above the sea.
Ariel (played by Halle Bailey), the youngest daughter of King Triton (Javier Bardem), lives in the underwater kingdom of Atlantica. Fascinated by humans, she collects human artifacts and yearns to experience life on land. One day, after saving Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) from a shipwreck, she falls in love with him, but she is unable to communicate with him because she cannot speak.
Desperate to be with Eric, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), the sea witch. In exchange for her voice, Ariel is given legs and can live on land for three days. However, if she does not receive a kiss of true love from Eric by the third day, she will belong to Ursula forever.
As Ariel navigates her new life on land, she struggles to win Eric’s heart while also facing challenges from Ursula, who has her own sinister plans to take over the seas.

With the help of her loyal friends, including Flounder, Sebastian, and Scuttle, Ariel must find a way to break Ursula’s curse before it’s too late.

The film explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the pursuit of one’s dreams, while staying true to the beloved story. It features new songs alongside classic tunes from the original, with stunning visuals that bring the underwater world and the human realm to life.
