A chilling new chapter in the Insidious franchise is headed to theaters! The sixth installment of the acclaimed Blumhouse Productions horror series, co-produced by Screen Gems, is officially set for release on August 29, 2025, as announced by Sony.

While plot details and casting remain tightly under wraps, it’s still unclear if franchise veterans like Patrick Wilson and Leigh Whannell will reprise their iconic roles. Notably, this film is distinct from the upcoming spin-off, Thread: An Insidious Tale, announced in May 2023. That separate project stars Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani, with Jeremy Slater attached as both writer and director.

Assuming no other Insidious entries are released before this, Insidious 6 will mark the first installment since 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door. That fifth film saw the return of Patrick Wilson and Ty Simpkins, with Wilson also making his directorial debut. The Red Door exceeded expectations at the box office, grossing $82 million domestically and $189 million worldwide on a modest $16 million budget.

Since its debut in 2010 under director James Wan, the Insidious franchise has become a global phenomenon, earning over $730 million worldwide. Despite shifting distributors from FilmDistrict to Focus Features, Universal, and now Sony, Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions has remained a constant force behind the series. Screen Gems, which co-produced The Red Door, is back on board for this latest installment.

Interestingly, prior to The Red Door’s release, Jason Blum hinted at a significant break for the franchise, suggesting the fifth film might be the last for a while. “It may not be a forever rest, but it’s certainly going to be a very long rest. … There’s no current plan in place for number six,” Blum remarked at the time. However, with Sony’s new announcement, that “long rest” appears to have lasted just 25 months.

Prepare for more supernatural terror as Insidious 6 promises to plunge audiences deeper into the dark realm of The Further when it arrives in theaters in 2025.
