Gold coins dating back to ancient Rome were discovered beneath the floor of an old theater in northern Italy.

A soapstone vessel filled with hundreds of gold coins from the Late Antique period was unearthed at the site of the former Cressoni Theater in Como, Italy.

This extraordinary discovery provides a rare insight into the wealth and economic conditions of the late Roman Empire.

The coins, believed to date from the 4th to 5th centuries AD, are remarkably well-preserved and offer valuable information for historians and numismatists alike.

Hailed as one of the most significant numismatic finds in Italy in recent years, the hoard underscores the region’s historical importance during the twilight of the Roman era.
