Etruscan Gold Ring with Scarab and Lions

Etruscan Gold Ring with Scarab and Lions, 5th Century BC — British Museum Collection
This elegant gold finger-ring reflects the artistry of Etruscan jewelers in the 5th century BC. It features two finely crafted crouching lions, their front paws gracefully supporting a scarab set in gold.
The engraved gemstone depicts a lion turning its head backward, a motif typical of the period. While the scarab engraving is confirmed as genuine Etruscan work, a 1986 curatorial review suggested the gold setting itself may have been produced in the 19th century. Nonetheless, the piece remains a remarkable fusion of ancient iconography and craftsmanship.
