Sigiriya (Sinhagiri) Rock Fortress

Sigiriya, also known as Sinhagiri or Lion Rock, is a remarkable ancient rock fortress located in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka. Rising about 200 meters (660 feet) above the surrounding landscape, this massive granite column served as a royal citadel during the reign of King Kashyapa in the 5th century CE.

The site is renowned for its sophisticated urban planning, including extensive gardens, water reservoirs, and defensive structures.

Sigiriya is also famous for its exquisite frescoes, depicting graceful female figures, and the iconic Mirror Wall, which once gleamed so brightly that the king could see his reflection.
