Plot Overview:

The story centers around Lieutenant Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch), a reckless and rebellious naval officer stationed on the USS John Paul Jones, a battleship in the U.S. Navy. Hopper has a strained relationship with his brother Commander Stone Hopper (Alexander Skarsgård), and is romantically involved with Samantha Shane (Brooklyn Decker), the daughter of Admiral Shane (Liam Neeson), who disapproves of Alex’s lack of discipline.

During a multinational naval exercise near Hawaii, a signal is sent into deep space, intended to reach a potentially habitable planet. Unexpectedly, a fleet of hostile alien ships, known as “Regents,” responds to the signal and arrives on Earth, establishing an impenetrable force field around their landing site in the ocean. The alien fleet attacks several naval ships, including the one commanded by Stone, leaving Alex and a small crew stranded in the middle of the Pacific with only the USS John Paul Jones and limited resources to stop the aliens from calling reinforcements.

As the story unfolds, Alex must step up as the unlikely hero, overcoming his personal challenges to lead the crew in a desperate battle against the technologically superior aliens.
