Public Enemies (2009) is a biographical crime film directed by Michael Mann, based on the book Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34 by Bryan Burrough. The film stars Johnny Depp as notorious bank robber John Dillinger and Christian Bale as FBI agent Melvin Purvis, who is determined to bring him down.
