Ironclad (2011) is a medieval action film directed by Jonathan English, set during the turbulent times of early 13th century England, shortly after the signing of the Magna Carta. The movie stars James Purefoy as Thomas Marshall, a battle-worn Knight Templar, and Paul Giamatti as the ruthless King John.
The story centers on King John, who after being forced to sign the Magna Carta, attempts to reclaim his absolute power by launching a brutal campaign against the rebel barons who had previously challenged him. His primary goal is to retake Rochester Castle, a critical stronghold controlled by the rebels. To stop him, a small group of soldiers, led by Marshall and Baron Albany (Brian Cox), defend the castle in a ferocious siege.
